Tord

The Laeskogen Family at Sundvolden

Johan Blyberg was the first hotel owner, followed by his son, Ola. However, Ola Blyberg sold the property before his death, and several owners were involved thereafter, including Ruth Helgestad and later Director Larsen from the Norwegian Dining Car Company. Larsen established dining facilities in the Banquet House and created the popular outdoor area with old millstones as tables. Arne B. Laeskogen, the first generation of the Laeskogen family, joined as a partner in 1963 and purchased the hotel two years later. At that time, the hotel had 21 beds, a restaurant, and a cafeteria. Arne Laeskogen, who grew up in Hønefoss, was 29 years old and had a solid education in the hotel industry, including experience from the KNA hotel in Oslo and a year in Paris. He had long wanted his own hotel, even though it could be debated whether Sundvolden was his dream destination. The hotel was rundown and run in an old-fashioned manner, but Laeskogen appreciated the atmosphere. “It was in the very walls, so I truly thrived,” he said in an interview early in his career. In 1966, he married Bjørg Moe from Røyse, who was trained in diet and nutrition, and together they made a strong team. Today, the hotel has 525 beds spread over 273 rooms and is run by Tord and Cecilie Laeskogen, the second generation.
Mat

Cleaning, waste, and textiles

We are proud to operate in an environmentally friendly manner and do not use chemicals in our daily cleaning—only ozonated water. Our cleaning staff places great emphasis on ensuring that you, as our guest, arrive to a clean and well-maintained room. As a Swan-certified hotel, we encourage you to reuse your towels during your stay, and we do not clean rooms daily unless requested. Please hang the sign on your door if you would like fresh towels or cleaning. You will find a waste bin in your room, and we will take care of the sorting for you. Please leave any bottles with a deposit on the desk, and we will handle the rest. We encourage all our guests to make environmentally friendly choices during their stay—such as turning off the lights and being mindful of resource use.
