Arne Ekeland

Arne Ekeland (born August 14, 1908 in Bøn in Eidsvoll, died February 28, 1994) was a Norwegian visual artist.
He studied briefly with Axel Revold, but was otherwise mostly self-taught. He was one of those who worked in all art forms - including silk screen printing, ink washes, watercolor, gouache, and of course oil painting - for which he is best known.
He was a political painter, and was a member of the Norwegian Communist Party for most of his adult life. Many of his paintings were strongly influenced by his political views, anti-war stance, humanism, and the beauty he saw around him in nature and his family. Two recurring themes are sexuality and class struggle.
Ekeland received the Government's artist grant from 1958.
